Male engagement rings

First we may look at metals used in male engagement rings. Basically, these metals include gold, platinum, silver, titanium and tungsten. Gold is the most popular metal chosen for male engagement rings. It can be either yellow, or white. In fact, it can be other subtle colors like rose and green. It is very durable and it can be resized if that should be necessary at a future date. The gold cartage is usually 14k but, 18k and 10k are also functional and is a moderately priced choice.

Platinum rings are also a popular choice. It has most of all of the same wear ability features as the gold rings. Its principle disadvantage is price. At current metal prices platinum male engagement rings can be two to three times that of gold. The reason for this price difference between platinum and gold are

1. Platinum is a pure metal and gold is an alloy

2. Platinum has more mass and so it weighs more.

3. Platinum is priced higher than gold on a weight basis.

Silver like platinum can only be worn as a white metal. It is lighter in weight and is not as strong structurally as either gold or platinum. It also tarnishes much quicker and to a greater extent than gold. Platinum on the other hand does not tarnish at all. Silver is very inexpensive.

Titanium and tungsten are two other somewhat popular metals for male engagement rings. They are very durable and they are lightweight. The lightness of the weight is appealing for men. It is also appealing to men for use as a wedding band because like silver it is very inexpensive. Compared to either white gold or platinum, the whiteness of titanium and tungsten has a cooler, harder, and darker look and may appeal to those who prefer a modern or industrial look and feel.

The significant disadvantage of tungsten or titanium in male engagement rings is that it cannot be resized. When and if it no longer fits, a new band needs to be acquired.

If you include all of the possibilities mentioned above, prices would range between 50 and 1000$ for a plain men’s band without any gemstones.

Gemstones in mens rings

There are some people who would like to have gemstones included within their engagement rings, this may be due to their desire to compliment the woman’s band, or just prefer a more interesting look. Diamond is the most popular choice in this regard. However, precious stones like: Sapphire, ruby, and emerald should not be discarded.

Our top recommendations for practical reasons include ruby and sapphire. Both of these gemstones are very durable because they are corundum which is the hardest mineral next to diamond. Sometimes people choose other gemstones because of their color preferences or its symbolic meaning. It is reasonable to suppose that these other gemstones will show wear after years of use.

Gemstones used in male engagement rings do not have to be restricted to straight lines like you would find in a square or a rectangular shape, but men also wear shapes cut in circular shapes like round or oval. The gemstones may either be faceted, finished as a cabochon, or slab inlayed flush with the setting.
