Diamond grading charts

Diamond grading charts have been developed by laboratories that grade diamonds. The diamond grading charts are constructed to describe a diamonds color, clarity, how well it is cut and of course its weight. The first two factors tend to be somewhat more subject. The last two factors are objective.

The laboratories submit quality reports that are intended to help the consumer assess the overall quality of a diamond. This is important because quality affects price. It is important however that consumers realize that while on the one hand reports clarify the value of a diamond, they are not completely transparent. This is not simply due to the fact that some of the variables being graded are subjective, but also because all diamonds that are given the same grade are not equal.

The diamond grading chart is not from the consumers point of view equivalent to a model number on an appliance. It is for this reason that most consumers can benefit from having a diamond professional help them with their selection.
