Antique replica engagement rings

Antique replica engagement rings are becoming much more popular today then they have been in the past, and are currently being made becuase there is not enough original material in the market place to satisfy the demand.

Antique replica engagement rings cover a large number of styles but most often characterize the styles that were prevalent in 1920’s-1940. This is what most people have in mind when they are interested in a replica of an antique engagement ring. When these ring styles are used for purposes of an engagement they usually include diamonds. The ring can consist of one major diamond by itself or the major diamond can be accompanied by a number of smaller diamonds.

Antique replica engagement rings do not usually have very large diamonds. More often than not, small diamonds are used and then set in a plate which is made to the proper size to accommodate a particular size diamond. The overall affect is to make the diamond appear larger than what it actually is. That is the reason that this style of diamond setting is called the “illusion style”. Antique replica engagement rings are very dainty in appearance and have a multiple cutout pattern. Large diamonds do not necessarily go well with this style.

The antique style is very lightweight both in fact and in appearance. When this style is chosen as an engagement ring the person should be aware that maintenance may be required down the line. The very fine mesh type castings can develop small cracks but, these can be repaired.

Most often the precious metal of choice for replicating an antique style engagement ring is 14kt or 18kt white gold. Platinum is also used because it is also a white metal.

Engraving is usually incorporated in the overall design. The engraving is done in a very detailed, fine, intricate, detailed style. The engraving is done on the metal surface and can cover the sides of the ring as well as the top. Sometimes the engraving can cover the entire ring. Often times it covers those portions of the ring that are not set with diamonds. Engraving is an additional expense if it is done by hand.

It is also possible to make a mold of a particular antique engagement ring that has already been hand engraved. The patterns however are usually not quite as sharp, because of the casting process. It is possible to engrave for sharper detail after the casting. Labor costs are much less this way rather than hand engraving a plain surface.
